Daily Mail Interview

Mr Fagan has been interviewed by the Daily Mail about the great results obtained in his patients who have undergone Balloon Kyphoplasty for osteoporotic fractures (fractures due to thinning of the bones).

Mr Fagans own audit includes over 100 fractures treated. The results show that 86% of patients are significantly better following the procedure. They are walking more upright, have less pain and are able to be more active afterwards. Most can also stop taking strong painkillers such as morphine.Mr Fagan’s Data shows that his patients regain their quality of life:In patient centred outcome measures (Oswestry Disability Index) a statistically significant improvement from over 50% disability to 30% was made. This is a measure of peoples ability to perform activities of daily living such as sitting, standing, traveling, walking and sleeping. The higher the Oswestry score, the WORSE the patient is. To put this in context a reduction of 15% is considered significant. A reduction of disability by 20% is better. Patient’s pain dropped significantly too – from a score of over 7/10 to 3/10 (p<0.0001). The story will be published from tomorrow.
